Sometimes, when I take my daughter to school in the morning, she tells me she doesnt' want to go to school because she's shy. So I tell her what I wish the adults in my life had told me when I was her age: "That's ok. You don't have to talk to anyone if you don't want to. You can be all by yourself even when your friends are around. You can go play with them when you're ready. And if you're not ready today? That's ok too. You don't ever have to play with anyone if you're more comfortable on your own." I hope she takes it to heart.
